South Grenville Minor Hockey Association - Tournament Rules & Regulations for 2009/2010 Season

  1. ODMHA rules state “A team must give both verbal and written notification with a minimum of 10 days of their intent to withdraw from a tournament. This withdrawal also must be due to UNAVOIDABLE circumstances to be followed by Rule and Regulation 10.1 i) The coach of a team that enters a Tournament and fails to appear will be suspended until a formal hearing is conducted by the ODMHA Discipline and Appeals Committee.”

  2. S.G.M.H.A. will not be held responsible for any accident(s) or injuries to any competing players, team officials or their fans.

  3. Other than the items listed below, ODMHA rules will apply, including the ODMHA Code of Discipline.

  4. a) Each team will be allowed up to 19 players (two of which will be goaltenders)

    1. b) A player must have played (or served a suspension) in his/her first or second game to be eligible to play in the A or B finals.
  5. Each team will be guaranteed at least two games.

  6. Team Officials must check in with the SGMHA acting Tournament Convenor, or their alternate, one hour before the scheduled game time. Each team will be expected to be ready to go on the ice as soon as the Zamboni has left the ice and the doors are closed by the rink attendant. The clock will be set for a two minute warm up period. No additional time will be allowed for warm up.

  7. a) Each game will consist of 3 ten minute stop time periods.

    1. b) During the third period, running time will commence with a four (4) or more goal spread. Once running time commences, it will not be stopped even if the four goal spread is reduced.
  8. Each team will be allowed one thirty (30) second “time-out” at any time during the game which includes overtime.

  9. In the event of a tie score, except for the A or B finals, penalty shots will be taken.

    1. NOTE: Five (5) penalty shots per team will be taken simultaneously (beginning with the STARTING LINE-UP, coach to decide the order). If the score is still tied after the first five penalty shots, sudden death penalty shots will be taken. No player will repeat until each player on the official game sheet (excluding goaltenders) has taken his/her turn. If more rounds are required, the players must go in the same order as in the first round. A player serving a penalty when the shoot-outs start shall not be allowed to participate in the shoot-out.
  10. In the A and B finals, in the event of a tie score, the teams will play a three (3) minute sudden death stop-time period with five (5) players (goaltenders being a player). If still tied, the teams will play a three (3) minute sudden death stop-time period with four (4) players. If still tied (or time becomes a problem) “penalty shots” as in rule #8 will apply.

  11. If a penalty is called in overtime when the teams are playing with reduced numbers of players, the non-offending team will add a player. If the penalty expires while play in progress, the penalized player will return to the ice and at the next stoppage of play the teams will revert back to the equal number of players (ie 4 or 5).

  12. Protesting of a game must be done only by team officials. The protest is to be in writing and be accompanied by $50.00 (fifty dollars). The protest must be issued within 10 minutes of the conclusion of the game in question, to the SGMHA acting Tournament Convenor or their alternate. If the protest is won the fee will be returned.

  13. The SGMHA acting Tournament Convenor, or their alternate, reserves the right to make decisions regarding the interpretation of the Tournament Rules and Regulations, to make decisions regarding the objections or protests involving any conduct of the Tournament and as such, all decisions will be final. Any interference by anyone will be dealt with by the SGMHA Executive.

  14. There will be no presentations made on the ice except for the A and/or B final games.
